An Opinion by Gary Goldberg
PART 1
America! America the Beautiful! Land of Life, Liberty, and the PURSUIT of Happiness! The country born out of Revolution! The Country that would not put up with TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!
I am fortunate. I was born right here in America. My father and mother were also born in America. However, my grandfather on my father’s side was not as fortunate. He was born in Russia. During the Russian Revolution, he and my Great Grandfather made their escape from Russia and came to America, to be free.
It wasn’t easy for them. First, they did not speak English, they were herded through Ellis Island in New York harbor just like all immigrants back then. Like most of the immigrants of that time, they came to America to build a new life, to enjoy freedom, to work hard and achieve the “American Dream”.
They had to work very hard. They had to go to night school to learn to speak English and to learn everything necessary to become a citizen of the United States of America. They were not handed ANYTHING. Everything they got, they had to EARN! There were no “Government handouts”.
Today, all someone has to do, is come to this country illegally, demand heath care, a free education, and have their babies here, so the children automatically become citizens. Then, the Government will not deport the mother because it is not “right” to separate a child from his/her mother.
I know that I am “preaching to the choir” on this, and most of you feel the exact same way that I do, but when are the rest of the citizens of this country going to wake up and do something about this “donkey manure”? (You know what I really wanted to say!)
I recently read an article in a magazine dedicated to an entirely different subject than Gold Mining. (Yes, I do have other interests besides Gold Prospecting and Mining) The article “Losing Our Religion” was written by Mike Good in the latest issue of UFO Magazine (Vol. 24 No. 3 Issue # 156). In his article, under the Sub-Title “The Cult of Narcissus” Mr. Good writes: “An oft-quoted allegory is the story of Galileo explaining the solar system to some of the learned men of his day. Although it may be apocryphal, it does illustrate an uncomfortable truism about human nature. It was said that many of the gathered minds refused to look through Galileo’s telescope because to do so would threaten their hard-won beliefs.”
The article goes on to say: Copernicus’s ideas were considered dangerous and subversive for the same reason. His observation that the earth revolved around the sun threatened the religious belief of the day: that man was an elevated being specially chosen by God. This meant that the universe must revolve around us. For Copernicus to suggest otherwise was considered both treason and blasphemy. Truth was not the issue. The belief that man was the center of the universe was considered sacrosanct. Why was the status of a false belief deemed more important than the truth?”
After reading this, I began to realize that things in this country are not much different than they were in old Europe for Galileo and Copernicus, then they are for today’s American dredger. The extreme environmentalist refuse to believe the proven scientific data that says suction dredging does not harm the streams, rivers, fish or other life indigenous to the habitat. Instead, they cling to the misguided rhetoric of some self-centered environmentalist who believes he/she is “saving Mother Earth”.
How many Environmental Impact Studies have been conducted on rivers and streams in California, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, as well as other States, and have ALL reached the same conclusion: SUCTION DREDGING HAS NO HARMFUL AFFECT ON THE ENVIRONMENT. So then, why are they continuing to demand more EIS’s be conducted to ensure that the results of the previous umpteen studies were correct? It has to be for the same reason that Galileo and Copernicus, were ridiculed. These well-meaning, do-gooders are not willing to accept TRUTH because it goes against their belief system.
In today’s American economy, where the Federal Government is broke monetarily, and many State Governments are broke also, why do the people responsible for our indebtedness continue to listen to these environmentalists and continue to waste taxpayers money on useless and needlessly repeated studies. Well, the answer to that is a very simple one. Ask yourselves, where do the politician get huge donations for their election campaigns? Answer, the Special Interest Groups, like the Sierra Fund and many other “ENVIRONMENTAL” groups.
Remember GLOBAL WARMING? This was AL Gore’s ONLY claim to fame. He even won a Nobel Prize for his work to stop global warming. WHAT A CROCK!!! Scientist have proven that there are millions upon millions of years of global warming and global cooling. It is a product of nature. Man’s tiny footprints on mother earth are so insignificant that it cannot be the total reason for these major climatic changes.
Don’t misunderstand me, I am all for minimizing the really legitimate causes that some of the environmentalist fight for, like reducing air pollution from cars and industrial plants. The intentional dumping of toxic chemicals and waste into the rivers and oceans by reckless, money hungry and greedy corporate entities.
There are many more examples of good environmental causes. However, these extremists have to get REAL! When SCIENCE PROVES that a practice or action does not cause any harm, get off it and move on to something worthwhile.
I am not one to “throw stones” at my neighbors, but why aren’t the extremist environmental groups screaming about the fishing industry for polluting the oceans and rivers with vast amounts of lead? Likewise, the hunting community hasn’t come under the same level of attack for using lead bullets, which wind up in our rivers and lakes? How about the practice of over-fishing or over-hunting? What about the poachers of both of those groups? It is time for a reality check for these “mightier than thou” hypocrites, so they turn their attention to solving the REAL PROBLEMS in America!
